Teen Pregnancy Rate Continues to Decline

The teen pregnancy rate (girls aged 15-19) declined 10% between 2000 and 2002 and has dropped a total of 35% between 1990 and 2002, according to data just released from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). In 2002, there were about 757,000 pregnancies among girls aged 15-19, down from over one million in 1990. The report notes that the pace of decline in the teen pregnancy rate has increased. For the 2000-2002 period, the rate dropped about five percent per year, compared with an average decline of about 3 percent per year between 1990 and 2000.

Generation Next Documentary
Mark your 2007 calendars for the premiere of the new documentary, "Generation Next: Speak Up. Be Heard." The show airs on PBS stations on Friday, January 12 and is hosted by journalist and National Campaign Board member Judy Woodruff. The documentary consists of interviews with young people aged 16-25 from across the country. Woodruff and the Generation Next crew spent the summer touring the United States and gauging the views of young people, a group they describe as "massively diverse, exceedingly tolerant, and extraordinarily informed."
