Dear NM Employment Institute Collaborative members:

This is a message forwarded from Barbra Portzline, Ph.D..  If you have any questions, contact her directly at 505-228-0966, or the project coordinator, Ron Olguin at 272-9654.

                                                         ****************************

Greetings,

I am working with the University of New Mexico Center for Development and Disability on a health promotion intervention for youth with disabilities called I Can Do It! You Can Do It! We are trying to recruit 300 youth with disabilities (ages 12-21) in New Mexico to participate in the study and need help!

It is a six-week mentoring program developed by the Office on Disability in the Department of Health and Human Services.  Mentors meet weekly with an adolescent with a disability to help them learn the value of physical activity and nutrition.

The study will include matched treatment and control groups of 100 adolescents with disabilities in each group. Participants in the treatment group will participate in the program while those in the control group will not. Both groups will complete three surveys - before the program starts, immediately after it ends, and a two-month follow-up. Participants will receive incentives for completing each survey (flashlight, radio, ball, camera).

APS will be our sponsoring agency, and Ron Olguin is our coordinator.

If you know anyone who may want to participate or if you could forward this email for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Please ask them to call Ron Olguin at 272-9654 if they are interested. Thank you so much for your time!

Barbra Portzline, Ph.D.
