> provides free, confidential and compassionate help to anyone statewide in need
of emotional support. Agora is one of the oldest student-run crisis centers in
the country, beginning in 1970 as a University of New Mexico campus crisis line.
Through a partnership with the New Mexico Department of Health, Agora is expanding
its telephone crisis line statewide, on a 24/7 basis. Because of this, we are
expanding our volunteer base beyond our student community, and to help us by volunteering!! Volunteers
work one 4-hour shift per week, and receive 40 hours of training in
communication skills and crisis intervention. BR>
Requirements for volunteering are:
Completion of Agora training (40 hours – to be held on Saturdays September 16,
23, 30 and October 7 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory
Volunteers must commit to be responsible for staffing during one 4-hour shift
per week for a minimum of 220 hours (One year commitment)
ttendance at the Agora General Meeting to be held 3 times/year in January, May
and August (always held on a Wednesday evening)
